Columbia Concert Winds Columbia Concert Winds The Columbia Concert Winds is a select wind ensemble fashioned after the original Eastman Wind Ensemble, founded in 1952 by director Frederick Fennell. The purpose of the Columbia Concert Winds, a smaller wind ensemble, is to establish a new medium, consisting mainly of one instrument per part with emphasis on the art of music and its teaching. Under the direction of Bruce Wilson, the Columbia Concert Winds have successfully toured the United States and the world. The band attracts musicians from around the world, some coming from as far as Australia. Many of the band members receive a yearly scholarship for performing in the group. Typical performances include weekend tours to various churches and schools. The Columbia Concert winds also perform at cathedrals and concert halls and special events.
