Statement of Diversity

We believe that creating a diverse, inclusive environment is fundamental in achieving excellence in Christian education. This vision requires courageous, bold actions from many people through out this institution.

Columbia Union College encourages an environment in which faculty, staff, and students embrace an ethic that ensures a harmonious interaction among people with varied and dynamic cultural identities. We embrace “the common heritage of humanity.”

For Columbia Union College, diversity is an umbrella term that understands our community as made up of men and women from different nations, cultures, ethnic groups, generations, backgrounds, skills, abilities, and all the other unique difference that make each of us who we are.

We believe that appreciating diversity is an essential part of an effective learning environment. Part of the liberal arts education a person receives at Columbia Union College is learning to value and respect differences of appearances, opinion, beliefs, practices, and ideas. Students who leave here will have learned to honor the history and backgrounds of all those represented here in our community.

We believe that the goal of embracing diversity cannot be reached without an open and continuous dialogue among all members of the Columbia Union College community, including parents and students. Market forces alone cannot guarantee the promotion of diversity, but with good policy and practice we can achieve the community we envision. We are proud to be the champions of diversity.
