The Weis Library at Columbia Union College is named in honor of Theofield G. Weis, the Librarian of the college from 1931-32, 1935-67 and Librarian Emeritus from 1967-1971. Weis library has access to over 55 million bibliographic records, including the collections in many local libraries through an on-line database. An interlibrary loan system makes it possible to obtain materials that Weis Library does not have. Materials can be checked out with a student ID card for four weeks and renewed once.
Weis library has books and papers on one-hour, two-hour, and one-day reserve; contains over 130,000 volumes and bound periodicals; houses the Writing Center; has a reference room that contains the current issues of over 400 periodicals in addition to indices, handbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, vertical files and electronic database resources; contains a photocopying machine for use at $.10/copy; has 32 lighted study carrels and a reference room with study tables; maintains an education curriculum library of elementary and secondary school textbooks, curriculum guides, audiovisual materials, and a children's literature collection; lends audiovisual materials; maintains a Hertiage Room collection of Seventh-day Adventist books, periodicals, and reference; has collections of CUC yearbooks and memorabilia; uses an online catalog system; has a microfiche and microfilm reader and coin-operated printer for use at $.10/copy.
